Backpackers special! Don't mind a longer van ride and want to see more of the terrain? This 2 day trip to Machu Picchu is for you.
This trip involves a 7 hr van ride. Expect curvy mountainous terrain on mostly paved with some dirt roads.
First day's lunch, hostal, entrance and guide included. This is a very basic service.
There is a 2 hr walk to Aguas Calientes on Day 1 and a 2 hr uphill walk to Machu Picchu on Day 2 with train/bus options available.
We handle your transportation, hostal and guide and you connect the dots on your own.
Machu Picchu by car is somewhat touristic.
Day 1 Cusco - Abra Malaga - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes
In the morning we'll pick you up from your hotel and begin our journey through the Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo where we will climb to Abra Malaga (4,350 m). We'll continue through the clouds descending further into the jungle then through Santa Maria and Santa Teresa 40 min later where we will stop for lunch in a typical restaurant. After lunch we'll continue another 20 min to Hidroelectrica. From here we walk for 2 hours crossing bridges, waterfalls and tropical flora and fauna until we arrive in Aguas Calientes at dusk. Night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 2 Machu Picchu - Hidroelectrica - Cusco
You are welcome to either walk or take the bus (bus tickets not included). Some begin walking at 4 or 5 am and are rewarded with a sunrise. Others prefer to take the first bus at 6 am. In either case, you'll need to be at Machu Picchu's gates by 9 am to meet your group for a pooled tour of Machu Picchu. You'll have 1.5 hrs of tour and 1.5 hrs of free time to take more pictures. Around 12 you'll either begin walking back down or take the bus to Aguas Calientes then continue back around towards Hidroelectrica where your car will be leaving for Cusco no later than 2 pm. Return to Cusco (7 hrs) arriving at night.
