Day 1    Iquitos - Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve
We will meet you at the airport or your hotel and transfer to Iquitos. There you'll meet your guide then we'll transfer 25km/15mi by car (highway) to the National Reserve of Allpahuayo Mishana. This reserve of 5,700 hectares of chamizales and varillales forests which are those that grow out of white sand. There are at least 300 species of trees per hectare, 130 species of reptiles and 460 species of birds of which 20 associated with this kind of forest, 5 are endemic. The Gentry or Old Hormiguerito (Herpsicochmus gentry) The Mishana Tiranuelo (Zimmerius villresol) The Chestnut-winged Ant (Mirmeciza castena centuculorum) The Iquitos Perlite (Polioptila clementsi) The Allpahuayo Hormiguerito (Percnostola arenarum). We will check in at the reserve's Research Center then have a morning birding walk before returning to the center for lunch then setting out again for another walk. We can find endemic species such as "La Perlita de Iquitos" as well as other species of toucans, cotingas and antlers. We'll return for dinner. Night at the Research Center.

Day 2    Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve
Early in the morning, we'll set off on a hike in search of manakins, trogons, barbets etc. We can also find poison dart frogs (Dendrobates). We'll return for Breakfast at the research center then hike along the road towards Nauta where we can find several species of parrots congregating at the fruit trees along the road. We can also find caciques, oropendolas, tanagers and cotingas. We'll return to the research center for lunch. Later In the afternoon we'll explore other trails looking for more birds as well as primates such as "Pichicos" or "Saddleback Tamarin" (Saguinus fuscicollis) , "Guapo Negro" or "Monk Saki" (Pithecia monachus) and the "Tocon" or "Andean Titi" (Callicebus oenanthe). We'll return for dinner. Night at the Research Center.

Day 3    Allpahuayo Mishana Reserve - Pacaya Samiria Reserve
After breakfast we head out by car to Nauta where we will take a motorboat up the Marañón river (3 hrs) to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Here in the reserve we can observe herons, sparrowhawks, camungos, jacanas, macaws and parrots. We also have the possibility to see the Amazonian dolphins from the boat as we travel. We'll have lunch onboard the boat before reaching the native community of Arequipa where our porters will set up our 1st camp while our chef prepares dinner. Night camping.

Day 4    Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
Waking up early and before breakfast we'll take a boat ride on the Yanayacu river in search of parrots, toucans, caracaras, macaws, chamois and scavenger birds such as the yellow-headed vulture that lives on the banks of rivers. We'll return to our camp for breakfast then hike through a flooded forest to see the prehistoric "Shansho" or "Hoatzin" (Opisthocomus hoazin) which as a juvenile has claws on its wings which it later loses in adulthood. This bird is easy to spot on the banks of the lagoons. We return to our camp for lunch then spend the afternoon on the Yanayacu/Pucate river looking for all types of wildlife. Our guide and boatman will determine our next campsite where our porters will set up camp and chef will prepare our dinner. Later at night we'll again explore the river in search of caiman and nocturnal birds such as the common potoo, great potoo and others such as owls. We'll return to our camp for dinner. Night camping.

Day 5    Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
Waking up early we can watch birds leave their nests for the day in search of food. There are cotingas, macaws, parrots, royal vultures and once in a while, the harpy eagle (Harpia harpyja). We'll return to camp for breakfast before setting off on another trail hike for hummingbirds, manakins, anthills, flycatchers, tanagers, finches and others. Afterwards we'll return to the camp for lunch before our porters begin packing our camp up. Then we will boat downstream to the Yanayacu/Pucate river mouth where we will setup our last camp and chef prepare our last dinner in the forest. Night camping.

Day 6    Pacaya Samiria - Nauta - Iquitos
After breakfast the porters will pack up camp and we'll begin our return. After scenic and enjoyable boatride on the Marañón river we'll arrive back in Nauta where our bus will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel or airport in Iquitos.
